Labels:text | screenshot | font OCR: Product: Ultimate Blitz Reviewer: Neil Bullock REQUIREMENTS Memory: 1MB Processor: Any CD-ROM: Yes Graphics: Standard Sound: N/A OK, before I get on about the actual main things on this CD, I would like to suggest that this CD is not for beginners. Yes, everything's laid out in a fairly easy to understand way, and although the layout isn't bad, it's not perfect. It's such a shame that the same can't be said about the Manual. The manual is a simple text file on the CD, which has obviously been scanned and OCR'ed into the computer. This means you get 'f/ags' instead of 'flags' and 'I' instead of '1' all over the place, which could be confusing if the manual is in the middle of explaining that you need to type the '1' character, but that '1' character came out as an 'I' character. You'd have thought that the manual was originally written on a computer wouldn't you? Couldn't they just save the manual file as plain text and put that on the CD? Wouldn't that be a much better option? At least we wouldn't get stupid mistakes like that! Not that the printed version of the manual is much better. Spelling mistakes everywhere. It's only possible to distinguish between OCR and spelling errors when you have both manuals! Anyway, after spening two paragraphs talking about the manual, I'll get on with the review of the actual product(s) on the CD. I say product(s) because there are actually two commercial products on this CD. Blitz Basic 2.1 is the obvious one, but the not so obvious one is the Red When Excited Blitz Support Suite. The Blitz program itself hasn't changed much. There's still THE most awkward way of moving to the next line in place. There's still the fact that you can't delete the line you're on and move the whole listing up one line without using a cryptic key combination, and there's still the excellent power and command set which came with the Disk version. The Support Suite is OK. I haven't really figured out what it does yet since I have had no need to use a lot of the utilities which come as part of the package. However, if nothing else, there's an updated version of the Text Editor Blitz uses. However, it still uses the same awkward way of moving to the next line and still uses. However, the product, as a whole, is good. The speed is phenomenal when you have compiled programs, and it's all very smooth, if a little unneccessarily complicated (like the word 'unneccessarily' is also unneccessarily complicated :) Ultimate Blitz CD Manual: 2/10 Speed: 10/10 Ease Of Use: 9/10 Overall Score: 89%
